In accordance with the K-12 program, Baguio College of Technology (BCT) will offer Senior High School (SHS) Program in school year 2016-2017 as approved by the Department of Education (DepEd) on March 13.
The school administration passed the application to offer the said program, on April last year and was granted provisional permit.
According to Melchor Lisnang, Vice President for Academics, BCT applied under the Technical-Vocational area and will offer three specializations namely Computer Programming, Consumer Electronics Servicing and Electrical Installation and Maintenance. All with National Certificate II which will be assessed by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and can be used for immediate employment.
“SHS curriculum will include core, contextualized and specialized subjects as mandated by DepED,” said Lisnang. Core and contextualized are general education subjects and common for the three specializations.
DepEd Regional office will conduct an ocular inspection from June to October to validate the school’s readiness to offer the said program.
With the implementation of K-12, schools all over the city are coping and coming up with programs to meet the demand for senior high school.
SHS is two years of specialized higher secondary education in line with the K-12 program, where students are free to choose their specialization which will be based from their aptitude, interests and capacity of the school and are based on three tracks: Academic, Technical-Vocational and Livelihood and Sports and Arts.
